Mimi Parker, Low’s Vocalist And Drummer, At The Age Of 55,
Mimi Parker, the vocalist and drummer for the rock band Low, died on Saturday (Nov. 5) of ovarian cancer. She was 55 years old.
The Duluth, Minnesota-based band, which also includes Parker’s husband and bandmate Alan Sparkhawk, revealed the tragic news on Sunday via its official Twitter account.
“Friends, it’s difficult to put the universe into words and into a brief message, but she died last night, surrounded by family and affection, including yours,” Low said in a statement. “Keep her name close to your heart and sacrosanct. Share this moment with someone who requires your assistance. The most important thing is, certainly, love.
“There have been challenging days, but your love has supported us and will continue to lift us during this time,” Sparkhawk posted on Oct. 7 on Instagram. “With tears in our eyes, we thank you and hope to see you soon.”
Parker was born and reared in Minnesota, and her mother was an aspiring country singer, according to the vocalist and drummer. Parker began seeing her future spouse Sparkhawk during junior high school and began playing drums in her high school marching band.

Low was created in 1993 by Sparkhawk and Parker, both practising Mormons, along with original bassist John Nichols. The band, which had additional revolving members throughout the years, went on to become a household name in the “slowcore” rock sub-genre. Low’s debut album, I Could Live in Hope, was critically acclaimed in 1994, and the band went on to record 13 albums over the course of its nearly 30-year history.
Parker’s husband, Sparhawk, and their two children, Hollis and Cyrus, survive her.
