NOFX Will Disband In 2023 After 40 Years Together
NOFX is calling it quits after 40 years as a band, according to “Fat Mike” Burkett.
According to Rolling Stone, the frontman casually revealed the news in an Instagram comment to a fan who inquired when the band planned to tour in Canada on Thursday. “We love Canada; it’s just that next year will be our last.” Our final shows will be announced soon. It’s been an incredible run….,” he wrote, adding in another comment, “Los Angeles will be the last place we play.” It’s where we started and where we’ll finish.”
As of press time, the band had made no official confirmation of a split.
While the California-based punk rockers formed NO-FX in 1983, five years before the release of their debut album Liberal Animation in 1988, they’ve since released 14 studio albums and 17 EPs. The band’s most recent album, 2021’s Single Album, debuted at No. 7 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart and No. 29 on the Top Rock Albums list.
Burkett collaborated with rapper The D.O.C. on their song “The Fast Ones” this summer. In an interview with Rolling Stone at the time, the bassist raved about the song, saying, “I have such a new respect for hip-hop.” I’m 55 years old and still getting to try new things. Who cares how good the NOFX record is? People care, I mean. Our album was well received last year… [but] I believe this is the best record I’ve ever produced.”
