Paul McCartney And Chrissie Hynde Perform ‘Oh! Darling’ At Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert
Among the many highlights of Saturday night’s Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert was Paul McCartney and Chrissie Hynde’s unexpected duet of the Beatles’ “Oh! Darling.”
The Abbey Road ballad hadn’t been “done since we recorded it 100 years ago,” McCartney told the crowd at Wembley Stadium in London. He joined Hynde onstage during the Foo Fighters’ headlining set at the nearly six-hour music event honouring Hawkins’ life.
With Omar Hakim on drums and McCartney on guitar backing them up, the two singers traded off vocals on “Oh! Darling.”

“God bless Taylor,” said McCartney, who later brought 1968’s “Helter Skelter” to the stage before the Foo Fighters continued on with their own hits, aided by a “revolving door of drummers” that included Josh Freese, Nandi Bushell, Rufus Taylor, and Hawkins’ son, Shane.
Earlier in the evening, Hynde shared the bill with the Pretenders, who featured Dave Grohl on bass.
“Oh! Darling” was recorded and released in 1969, but it was never released as a single by the Beatles in the United States. It did become a single for Robin Gibb in 1978, when it was included on the soundtrack to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
