PnB Rock’s Passing Offset, Nicki Minaj, Russ, And Others Lament: He Was kind And gentle.
On Monday (Sept. 12), the hip-hop community will remember PnB Rock, who was fatally shot at Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles in Los Angeles. He was 30.
The rapper was dining with his girlfriend, Stephanie Sibounheuang, who posted and then deleted a location-tagged photo of the couple’s meal on her Instagram Story, when a shooting occurred at 1:23 p.m. PT, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The suspect “brandished a firearm inside the restaurant and demanded items from the victim,” according to the Los Angeles Times. Rock was allegedly targeted because of his jewellery.
PnB Rock (real name: Rakim Hasheem Allen) died at 1:59 p.m. after being taken to the hospital. Tributes to the “Selfish” MC began to pour in on social media. “Pray for pnb rock….the man has a family and kids smh God be with the man,” Offset tweeted. Russ, who worked with the late rapper on “Issues” from Rock’s 2017 Billboard 200 No. 17 album Catch These Vibes, also wrote, “Damn man. PNB Rock, rest in peace. So sad.”
Nicki Minaj reflected on her time working with PnB and shared a cautionary tale about posting your location on social media. “There’s no way we as rappers or our loved ones are still posting locations to our whereabouts after Pop Smoke.” To display waffles and fried chicken????!” On Tuesday, Minaj tweeted. “It was a pleasure to work with him. My condolences to his mother and family. This makes me feel extremely ill. Jesus.”
