Rüfüs Du Sol could add up to seven ARIA Awards to their growing trophy cabinet when the annual ceremony is held next month in Sydney.

The electronic trio of Jon George, James Hunt, and Tyrone Lindqvist leads all artists with seven nominations for the 2022 ARIAs, including best group and best album for 2021’s Surrender (Rose Avenue Records/Warner Music), the band’s fourth LP and third leader on the ARIA Chart.

Surrender was honed by the Sydney band during lockdown stints in Joshua Tree and Los Angeles. When the restrictions were lifted, the trio performed works from it at three sold-out headline shows at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, and Surrender track “Alive” won their first Grammy for best dance/electronic recording. Over the last decade, they’ve already won four ARIA trophies.

“It’s exciting that this year’s nominees reflect a diverse, representative, and inclusive playing field for Australian music – something we’re committed to championing for years to come as we help more Australians connect with more local music,” says ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd.

The Australian recording industry’s flagship ceremony has been scheduled for November 24 at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion, marking the first live and in-person ceremony since 2019, prior to the pandemic.

“Congratulations to all the incredible artists recognised in this year’s nominations, and to everyone who has helped shape Aussie music over the next 2022,” Herd adds. “Your dedication, passion, talent, and creativity are unparalleled.” We can’t wait to celebrate with you all live and, finally, in person in Sydney this November.”

Winners in 27 categories, including fan-voted best video, best Australian live act, song of the year, and most popular international act, will be announced on the night.

The shortlists for the 2022 ARIA Awards were announced live on YouTube, the event’s ongoing partner, on Wednesday morning (Oct. 12).

Natalie Imbruglia, an eight-time ARIA Award winner, and Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi were announced as co-hosts during the feed.

“I’m excited to be returning to Australia for the first time since 2020,” says Capaldi, who will also perform on the night. “I’m pinning all of my hopes on winning an award as well because it’s extremely unlikely that I’ll be invited back, perhaps even into the country, after hosting it.” I hope to see you all soon.”

The ceremony will be broadcast live across Australia on free-to-air Channel 9 and its digital channel 9Now, as well as globally on YouTube.

The NSW Government, through Destination NSW, is supporting the 2022 ARIA Awards in collaboration with YouTube.

“On behalf of the ARIA board,” says ARIA chair Natalie Waller, “we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all of the talented artists who were nominated today for the 2022 ARIA Awards in collaboration with YouTube.” You are all at the very heart of Australia’s thriving music community, both locally and internationally.”
