Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights,’ According To Matty Healy, Almost Featured The 1975
Taylor Swift is now regarded as a musical anti-hero by fans of The 1975. Frontman Matty Healy revealed in a recent interview that his synth-pop band was almost featured on a version of the “All Too Well” singer’s blockbuster new album Midnights, but it never happened.
Healy first revealed to Audacy’s DTS Sound Station with KROQ hosts Klein and Ally that Swift had heard some of The 1975’s new album, Being Funny In a Foreign Language, before it was released in October. Jack Antonoff produced both Healy’s new album and Swift’s Midnights, which was released a few weeks later.
When asked if she’d “returned the favor” by letting Healy and his bandmates — Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald, and George Daniel — hear an early cut of Midnights, the “Somebody Else” singer said she’d gone one step further. “Yeah,” he said in an interview snippet posted to DTS’ Instagram story on Monday (Nov. 28). “We did work on it a little.”
“But then the version never came out,” he added, prompting some in the audience to express their dissatisfaction.
In response to some booing, he said, “No, no, no – that’s not how it works.” “It was for reasons that should not be questioned.” She’s incredible.”
Fans who had hoped for a Swift x 1975 collaboration before the release of Midnights may be surprised by the news. Healy had put an end to rumours of the band’s involvement a few months before the album’s release by confirming that a “leaked” tracklist — which showed his band on a nonexistent song called “In My Dreams” — was completely false.
“That would be fantastic!” “However, FAKE NEWS,” he tweeted at the time, retweeting the phoney list of song titles.
