Which Grammy-Winning Disco Diva Was Unmasked On ‘The Masked Singer’?
Gloria Gaynor’s disco anthem “I Will Survive” was a long-lasting hit. The two-time Grammy Award winner will no longer compete in The Masked Singer after being fired in another double unmasking on Wednesday (Oct. 19).
Mermaid was doomed because one had to go.
Gaynor, whose signature song “I Will Survive” spent three weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1979, was hidden behind the mask.
After the big reveal, Lloyd Webber told the 79-year-old New Jersey native, “You are one of the greatest singers of our generation.”
And why did Gaynor join the team? “I’ve been watching it because it looked like a lot of fun,” she explained. “I told myself, ‘Yeah, I’ve got to do this.'”
Earlier, Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger made a surprise appearance in Cats, performing “Memory.” Scherzinger made the song her own when she joined the cast of the 2014 West End revival of Cats, playing Grizabella and receiving a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for best actress in a supporting role.
Gaynor and Cantone join Daymond John (Fortune Teller) and the “Brady boys” Mike Lookinland, Barry Williams, and Christopher Knight (Mummies), Montell Jordan (Panther), Jeff Dunham (Pi-Rat), Chris Kirkpatrick (Hummingbird), Eric Idle (Hedgehog), and William Shatner (Knight) as celebrities eliminated from The Masked Singer’s current season.
