Wizkid And Tems Win Big At The 2022 Headies Awards (Full Winners List)
The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta hosted the 15th annual Headies Awards on Sunday. The top two winners were Wizkid and Tems (Sept. 4). The exhibition was held outside of Nigeria for the first time.
Wizkid and Tems collaborated on the international smash “Essence,” which reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 in October 2021. (With help from Justin Bieber) “Essence” was named song of the year as well as R&B single of the year.
Patoranking won best recording of the year and best reggae & dancehall album for his albums “Celebrate Me” and Three, respectively. Burna Boy was named both African and male artist of the year. For “Peru” and “Champion,” FireBoyDML won best Afrobeats single and best music video, respectively (featuring D Smoke). At the Headies, Ayra Starr won digital artist of the year and viewers’ choice for her song “Bloody Samaritan.” For their song “Feeling,” Bnxn won the Next rated: award and shared the award for best rap single with Ladipoe.

Chris Brown won international artist of the year over Justin Bieber, Beyoncé, Drake, Ed Sheeran, and Nas. Non-African artists or groups who have made significant contributions to Afrobeats are eligible for this category.
Three new categories were added to this year’s awards ceremony: international performer of the year, best inspirational single, and digital performer of the year.
The event featured performances by Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, FireBoyDML, Adekunle Gold, Davido, Flavour, Kcee, Buju, Lojay, Goya Menor, Cohbams, 2Baba, Joeboy, Rugier, Olamide, and Asake.
The Headies are the most prestigious Nigerian/Pan-African awards ceremony, honouring Afrobeats, African music, and culture excellence. The Hip Hop World Awards were founded in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognise outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry.
