Yungblud Discusses The Inspiration For His Self-Titled Third Album, Meeting Mick Jagger, And More: Watch
Why did Yungblud name his third studio album after himself? Because it’s “about me,” the English rocker explains.
Yungblud, the follow-up to 2020’s Weird!, was released on Friday, September 2nd by LOCOMOTION/Geffen Records. The singles from this album are “The Funeral,” “Memories” (featuring Willow), and “Don’t Feel Like Being Sad Today.”
The artist, whose real name is Dominic Harrison, tells Billboard News’ Tetris Kelly that his latest album “was an exercise in finding friends and people like me,” noting that he has previously felt isolated and lonely. “I literally looked into an iPhone and asked, ‘Hello, is anyone else out there like me?'”
Yungblud discussed meeting Mick Jagger during his interview with Billboard News, who recently praised him as a rock act that “makes me think there is still a bit of life in rock and roll” in an interview with Swedish radio station P4.
“Mick Jagger is everything to me as a frontman, an activist, a rock star, and a sex icon,” he says, recalling a meeting with the legendary rocker. “You must not exclaim, ‘Oh, my God!’ when meeting a rock ‘n’ roll star.” “Okay Mick, how are you?” I said as I drank a shot of whiskey and walked in. “What the f—?” I thought to myself.
Yungblud also talked about the current state of rock music. “Rock ‘n’ roll is about energy,” he says. “It has nothing to do with a drum set, a guitar, or anything else other than freedom and energy, because energy isn’t deceiving. Freedom of expression, freedom to be oneself, and freedom from conformity are all important concepts.”
