Kelly Clarkson’s Latest Kellyoke Cover Invites Fans To ‘Come Out & Play’
You can take the girl out of rock music, but you can’t take the girl out of rock music. Kelly Clarkson proved the adage correct with a spirited performance of The Offspring’s “Come Out And Play (Keep Em’ Separated)” for the Tuesday (Jan. 17) episode of Kellyoke, her eponymous chat show.
The “Since U Been Gone” singer, accompanied by her band Y’all, lets her complete vocal range show through, letting her full bodied tone dominate the track’s chorus, which she accented with a soaring high note for good measure.
“Are you disrespecting me, man?” Take him out (you must keep ’em apart)/ Hey, they don’t give a damn/ If you’re under 18 you won’t be doing anything/ Hey, come out and play,” she sang, the aggressive guitar and drum instrumentals of the band driving the pulse.
“Come Out and Play (Keep Em’ Separated)” was the second single released from The Offspring’s third studio album, Smash. The song was widely recognised as the band’s mainstream breakthrough, peaking at No. 10 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart for a total of 26 weeks. Smash debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 all-genre chart in 1994, peaking at No. 4 and spending 101 weeks on the chart.
“Come Out and Play (Keep Em’ Separated)” is the latest rock song Clarkson has sung on Kellyoke in recent weeks; she performed Blink-182’s “All the Small Things” on the Jan. 12 episode, and Duran Duran’s “Ordinary World” on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Jan. 6.
