Rapper Tame One, Artifacts, And The Weathermen, Died At The Age Of 52.
Tame One, a veteran New Jersey rapper who was a member of the hip-hop groups Artifacts and The Weathermen, has passed away. He was 52.
Darlene Brown Harris, the late rapper’s mother, confirmed his death to Pitchfork and on Facebook. “What is on my mind…. I don’t know how else to put it. “My son, Rahem Brown, Tamer Dizzle, is no longer with us,” she posted on Sunday. “According to the medical examiner, the six medicinal medications… administered to him last Friday, mixed with the marijuana he used this weekend… his heart simply gave out.” He’ll know more after the autopsy. I won’t be responding to all of your comments for a while, but the toughest words I’ll ever type or say are, “My baby, my heart, is dead.”
Rahem Brown, as Tame One, expressed himself as a teenager through music and graffiti. Tame One’s 1994 debut, Between a Rock and a Hard Place, co-written with Artifacts groupmate El Da Sensei, was a salute to the iconic art form that catapulted the duo into the public. The album charted on the Billboard 200 as well as the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums rankings. Despite their combined success, Artifacts only released one more album as a group, That’s Them, in 1997 before embarking on independent careers.
Following the group’s first split, the New York hip-hop group The Weathermen was created by a handful of East Coast producers and rappers. Tame One performed alongside Cage Kennylz, Masai Bey, Aesop Rock, Yak Ballz, El-P, Jakki Tha Motamouth, Vast Aire, and Breeze Brewin. In 2003, the group produced one mixtape titled Conspiracy.
El Da Sensei and Tame One reunited with producer Buckwild for their third album as Artifacts, No Expiration Date, which was released on August 20. “[In 1979], we’d travel miles with markers and cans, taggin’ up everywhere,” he stated in his final interview before passing away. “I was influenced by my circumstances; I’m a product of my surroundings, and I took advantage of what I saw.” It’s a blessing to be able to channel that energy and give it back.”
