Skrillex Looks Back On The ‘Toughest Year Of My Life’ As He Celebrates His 35th Birthday
Skrillex celebrated his 35th birthday on Monday by sharing a candid sequence of tweets on the challenges he’s endured in recent years.
“I had the most difficult year of my life in ’22, as did many others. “For the first time in my life, I literally found myself without drive and purpose,” he said. “My mother died a few years ago on the second day of Lollapalooza’s tour in [South America]. I’ve never been able to deal with it… I drank the agony away and continued.”
“People properly ask why ‘I’ve been gone’ or ‘dropped off,'” the techno star continued. As I already stated, ’22 was a watershed moment for me; I had to put everything on hold, particularly my projects and profession. The fact is that I did not cancel the Sunset and Movement Festival due to my CDs. It was due to the fact that I was working on myself.”
However, the artist born Sonny Moore noted that all the personal and internal effort he did has paid off, adding, “For the first time in 4-5 years I’ve experienced a new feeling of calm. It required a lot of effort and sacrifice to get here. That’s my birthday tweet to you all. For me, Turing 35 was discovering that there are certain f—s you should not give since you’ll be more free for it. Here’s to 35 laps around the sun and the f—s I’m no longer willing to offer.”
“Lastly, the support you’ve all shown over the years means the world, and I’ll continue to work on myself and not get into a situation where I have to cancel gigs / go into hiding,” he tweeted. “Yeah, it’s deep, but sh- ain’t that deep,” says wise [woman] @BibiBourelly.
Skrillex began the new year with the sinister “Rumble,” his latest collaboration with Fred Again… and Flowdan. He subsequently performed a surprise b2b2b set with Fred Again.. and Four Tet at London’s Electric Ballroom, and the tune has so far debuted at No. 15 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs list (dated Jan. 14), before becoming his sixth top 10 success the following week.
